The Weekly Memo: The Aftermath
Unprecedented Support for Charlie Kirk
Media outlets reported that some 200,000 people gathered in Glendale, Arizona to pay their respects to Charlie Kirk. Turning Point USA estimates that 100 million people streamed the memorial service online. Given Christ’s central role in the theme of the service, that broadcast could be one of the largest single-event proclamations of the Gospel in history.
Media Blame Bias
Despite all the evidence released by authorities regarding the shooter’s leftist ideology, more Americans believe Charlie Kirk’s murderer was a Republican or conservative (24 percent), than he was a Democrat or liberal (21 percent), according to a YouGov poll released last week.
This public sentiment is not surprising, given many outlets’ early claims that the shooter was a conservative. As CNN stated last week, “[s]ome commentators on the left responded to early clues by claiming Robinson was from the far-right… The fuller evidence we now have suggests Robinson held liberal views.” This sentiment was highlighted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s assertion that MAGA was responsible for the death of Kirk. Kimmel was initially fired for his statement, but that action was eventually retracted by Disney.
