The Weekly Memo: Look Local

Few Americans vote in local government elections today, even though more citizens than ever live within an urban or suburban community.

  • Overall, less than one in five voters generally turn out to vote in local elections.

  • Research indicates that school board election turnout is generally less than 10 percent.

  • For comparison, the voter turnout for the 2024 Presidential Election was almost 64 percent.

Many people look at the enormity of the problems facing our world today and feel helpless to make a positive difference. If you want to invest your time and effort into a place where real change can be made, perhaps, you should look local.
